Persecution Rises -- Christian Persection

Christian Persecution

According to data from the 2026 Open Doors World Watch List and global tracking reports, over 388 million Christians currently face high, very high, or extreme levels of persecution and discrimination globally.

The 10 Most Severe Regions of Christian Persecution

CountryPersecution Drivers & Current Situation
1. North KoreaTotalitarian Oppression: Remains the most dangerous country on earth for Christians. The regime demands absolute, deified loyalty to the Kim leadership. Owning a Bible or practicing faith in secret results in immediate execution or life imprisonment in brutal labor camps, often extending to three generations of the believer's family.
2. SomaliaClannish & Islamist Extremism: To be Somali is legally and culturally mandated to be Muslim. Christian converts from Islam face intense domestic violence, honor killings, and execution by family, clan leaders, or the terrorist group al-Shabaab. Church buildings do not exist; worship is entirely underground.
3. YemenCivil War & Sharia Enforcement: In a nation fractured by prolonged conflict, both the active government and rebel factions enforce strict Islamic law. Leaving Islam is punishable by death. Christians must hide their faith completely, as extremist groups operate with total impunity.
4. SudanExtreme Violence & Military Conflict: Sudan has experienced one of the highest spikes in direct violence. The ongoing civil war and a breakdown of state infrastructure have left Christian communities completely vulnerable to targeted military and militia attacks, church destruction, and mass displacement.
5. EritreaState Authoritarianism: Often called the "North Korea of Africa," the government recognizes only three Christian denominations (Orthodox, Catholic, and Lutheran). Believers belonging to independent evangelical or charismatic churches are actively hunted, rounded up, and imprisoned indefinitely without trial in shipping containers.
6. SyriaSurge in Militant Violence: Syria has seen a massive surge in violence and has re-entered the global top 10 list. In the post-Assad landscape, fragmented political power has left a vacuum for radical militants. Churches are under constant surveillance, and extremist groups are actively demanding jizya (safety taxes) or forced conversion from remaining believers.
7. NigeriaJihadist Incursions & Martyrdom: Nigeria remains the deadliest place on earth to be a Christian. Out of the 4,849 documented Christians killed globally for their faith in the last reporting period, 3,490 occurred in Nigeria due to extreme violence from Boko Haram, ISWAP, and militant Fulani herdsmen across the Middle Belt and North.
8. PakistanInstitutional & Social Hostility: Christians are treated as second-class citizens, heavily subjected to the country's strict blasphemy laws, which are frequently weaponized to incite mob violence and secure arbitrary arrests. Christian girls also face high rates of forced abductions and marriages.
9. LibyaLawless Extremism: In the absence of a stable central government, Christian migrant workers and local converts face immense danger. Trafficking networks and Islamic extremist groups actively kidnap, abuse, and execute Christians with no legal recourse available.
10. IranState Surveillance & Legal Crackdowns: The Iranian regime views the rapid growth of the underground house church movement as a direct threat to national security. Church leaders and members are routinely raided by secret police, arrested, and handed long prison sentences for "crimes against national security."

While state-controlled digital surveillance continues to tighten across Asia (particularly in China), Sub-Saharan Africa has become the global epicenter for physical violence, displacement, and martyrdom, accounting for over 90% of faith-related killings worldwide.

Riddle me this:

If Christ was/is a made up character by a bunch of Romans how then is all of His Words (prophecy)coming to pass? How come the world doesn't hate Muhammad, Buddha, Chrishna, and all the others; but say the name of Jesus and all of a sudden "religion" has defiled the minds of those who believe? Islam is on the rise: They marry little girls, assualt little boys, and have fun taking heads off of those who claimed Christ. So why would people go through all of that for something that's made up? Heck, our calendars are even based on before His life and after His death! So why all the hatred for a "fake character"? Do you think you know? (I know the answer)
